During 2009 Killochries purchased Drumcross farm at Bishopton. Since the purchase Killochries has undertaken a number of improvements to the farm. The land has been fenced, existing drainage reconditioned, ploughed for short term grassland with the aim to provide silage and feeding for Killochries cattle.
The Drumcross purchase is part of a significant expansion plan by Killochries with the intention of expanding it's cattle and sheep numbers.
The business has it's focus on producing breeding and finished cattle from a herd of Shorthorn and Highland pedigree cattle of which there are currently in excess of 300 cattle and a significent sheep flock consisting of both commercial sheep and pedigree Texel sheep.
To continue raising animal health and welfare standards a purpose built shed and cattle handling facility has be built at Drumcross. The cattle handling facility is part of the new shed's lean-to therefore roofed to keep cattle dry whilst handling and to reduce the contamination dirty water produces. The facility incorporates the latest thinking in cattle handling (design, weighing and EID) exploiting natural livestock behavior resulting in reduced stress and improved safety.
One of our objectives at Killochries, is to provide a habitat for bird life, particularly protected birds, including black grouse.
