Healthcare at Killochries Fold

Checking an animal

Killochries makes extensive use of Elite Traceability which, using it’s database hold individual records against each animal of their calves, blood tests, medication, movements and weight.

The system is 3G ready and each animal is ear tagged with RFID tags which will allow identification and information to be available in the crush. The system integrates to BCMS.

Two cows in the 'crush'Each time an animal enters the crush it is weighed and the weight recorded on Elite. This data is used both for health monitoring and breeding performance.

With organic Highland beef commanding a premium price the daily live weight gain becomes secondary to the daily value ($) gain and the cost of achieving that gain.

All Killochries Highland Cattle are sold with a health guarantee (IBR, Lepto, Johnes, BVD).

Dung and soil are sample checked for minerals and for the presence of parasites. Any action being taken is agreed with SOPA and introduced into the current management programme.
